Well, I think it's a sign or something.

It’s probably just gremlins in my computer or God is trying to tell me something.

Yesterday I pled guilty for poor blogging: bad manners for not keeping up on the blog reading and posting.

So later in the day I spent way too much time on the internet gleaning the 500 blog posts that went unread over the holidays. I'm having issues with Blogger. I won't bother you with the details, lets just say I increased the number of grey hairs on my head. I also spent over an hour trying to add a cute new background to my blog and I got nothing for the effort. Do you see a cute background? any background?

I came to the conclusion that maybe I should be spending my time on more important things.

Now don't get me wrong.

I LOVE you guys and your blogs and I LOVE blogging, but...

…in the grand scheme of things is my blog all that important?

I have so many more important things that are calling for my attention here at home. I have a relationship with God that needs more attention. I have a family that before long will be all grown up. I have a terrific husband who wants ME to be his BEST friend. How cool is that?

I have a house that would love to be more organized and tidy. I have friends and family that I need to invest more time with. There are people who I can serve in my community, if I just gave them the time.

So in the spirit of resolutions and starting fresh…

Remember me?
I use to blog here and would stop by your blogs and leave witty comments.
I'm truly sorry for my bad blogging. I really haven't been on the computer much lately. I got a new smart phone with internet access hoping I could at least read your blogs while in line at the bank or something like that, but google reader doesn't like the mobile browser.
It has taken me way to long to even type this post (I'm sitting in the ortho's office now).
So while I learn how to better use this "smart" phone, I'll ask for grace from my blog friends and try to stop by soon.

I Am A Kept Woman

I could go on and on and on, but I'm sure you hear me!
I'm blessed to be 'kept.'

We like our Veggies

We watched this on Sunday night. My kids are teens and we still love the Veggie Tales and their newest DVD is delicious! The first Veggie Tale we saw was the "The Toy That Saved Christmas" and we've been fans ever since.

I also love this song and it got me thinking. It's easy to write a check when you have the money to spare, it's something else to give of your time. So this year I'm giving my time to someone in need of a friend.

What are you doing this year to "Give This Christmas Away"? I'm sure that God will bless you for it.

Christmas Tour of Homes

Welcome to my home. This is the first thing you see when you enter the foyer. It's a wrought iron Christmas tree. It's simple and pretty. I'm still looking for a tree skirt to sit under the tree. I may have to make one.

This is part of my nutcracker collection. It brings back fond memories of seeing the "Nutcracker" with my kids when they were little. I find them in all kinds of places and I go for the cheap ones. All under $20. No fancy nutcrackers here. I don't believe you need to break the bank to be a collector.

I found these large ball ornaments at Marshalls' Home Goods. I could only find five so I hung them from the chandelier. I had a bunch of the chandelier crystal ornaments from Hobby Lobby and hung them on the inside. I also tied wire ribbon bows on the backs of the dinning room chairs.

I took an older wreath that had seen it's better days. Stripped off all the old lights and decorations and added new ones, and a wire ribbon bow. Hot glue is my friend. All the things seen here were found at Wal-Mart. The stockings are velvet and I added gold braid to the top of the cuff. I've had these for almost 20 years now. The star basket was a clearance item at Pier One. Not sure what I'm going to put in it this year maybe glittery pine cones.

I have limited room in the family room because we have a large sectional couch. So I found this half tree and it takes up half the space and you can't tell looking straight on that it's only half a tree. Each one of my kids gets a dated ornament every year. The collection will be theirs some day when they get their own tree in their own home.

Anchor Friday

Celebrating the holidays with food is part of many cultures. We expect it, don't we?

There were many years when between Thanksgiving and New Years I would gain 10 pounds. Then spend most of the new year trying to lose it.
The past few years I have been more successful by not gaining it in the first place. Sounds wacky, but it works. If you don't gain it you don't have to lose it.

This week my holiday tip is to set a realistic goal.

A realistic goal during the holidays may be just to maintain your weight and then start back to losing after the holidays. It can be discouraging when we set unrealistic goals. Give yourself a break. Cut yourself some slack.

But.... don't go crazy. Remember to practice mindful eating. Journaling is the best way to monitor your intake and keep yourself on track.

You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God.

The most important part about setting goals is to give it to the Lord. Ask God to help you set and keep your goals. Share your heart, your struggles, and your successes with Him.

I'm a Non-Conformist

I love traditional Christmas decorations, but I also have to do it different than everyone else. I have to put a personal twist on things. For instance, my Christmas trees.
I introduced my half tree to blog land last year. Here's how I decorated it this year.

You can't tell it's a half tree until you go to one side.

I picked a half tree so I wouldn't have to rearrange all the furniture in the family room. I can sit by the fire, watch "A Christmas Story" and admire my tree all from the comfort of my chair.

Then this fall I saw this tree and I fell in love.

My family thought I was a little weird for wanting a wrought iron tree, but everyone thinks it looks great in the living room. We have wrought iron fixtures and accents throughout our house, so this tree feels right at home. It's the perfect tree to show off my ornament collections. I'm still looking for a small tree skirt to put under the tree.

I also decorate my dinning room by tying ribbon bows to the backs of the wrought iron on the chairs, and hang ornaments from the wrought iron chandelier.

Pieces of Her

My mom made this quilt. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She made many items for Christmas and gave most of them away. I couldn't hardly wait for the day after Thanksgiving to put up this quilt. It's so beautiful.

Here's some of the blocks close-up.

She was a meticulous quilter. She used an embroidery machine to create the characters on each block. She hung this quilt with pride in the foyer of her home. Now I hang it in my home and it feels like a piece of her is with me.

Even though I miss my mom and wish we had another Christmas together, I can't help but feel happy for her because this is her first Christmas with Jesus.

Merry Christmas, Mom. I love you and miss you.

Which One are You?

Maybe you know these people. My husband hates to receive gifts. He gives great gifts usually after you let him know what you want. He's very generous. I think it's a control thing.

If you ask my older daughter she would tell you that she doesn't want anything for Christmas except for every one to be happy and love each other. She loves to get practical and sentimental gifts. Usually inexpensive gifts are her favorites.

My younger daughter makes out her Christmas list around August, after her July birthday. Money is no object unless she's buying.

I like both. I love thinking about what to give and always happy when I get anything, even if I don't really want it. I want the giver to feel good.

When I was a kid we didn't have technology. Seriously, we didn't even have a remote control for the TV. My dad made us get up and turn the channel for him.

We didn't have personal computers, video games, cell phones, GPS, etc...

So when I saw this commercial, it struck me as funny...

With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas before us 'tis the season for all things delicious and tempting. It's prime time for over indulgence but it doesn't have to be that way.

I was one of the brave ones or just maybe I'm a gluten for punishment but I went to my WW meeting the Friday after Thanksgiving and weighed in. The attendance at the meeting was way down. I stepped on that scale and to my surprise I was down one pound. It felt great. I'm so glad that I went.

I held myself accountable and it paid off.

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.

Hebrews 4:13-14 (NLT)

I know how hard it is to resist the temptations that come our way during the holidays. So I've put together a few tips to help you during this time of year that have helped me. I will share a few tips on each Anchor Friday during the holidays.

1. Don't skip meals so you can eat whatever you want when going out or attending parties.

Eat sensibly during the day of a big party. Drink plenty of water and have a healthy snack before you go. Enjoy the people and the decorations and leave some food for everyone else. Use small plates and mingle. Don't stand next to the food and avoid grazing.

2. Neighbors and Friends bring you plates of goodies.

Pick one thing and savor it. Then wrap them up and send them with your husband to take to the office. Or take them to your children's school office or your church office.

3. You over did it and now you feel bad about yourself.

So you didn't get my tips before you went to that party and you ate everything you wanted and then some. You feel like you might as well give up and start again after New Years. Stop. Don't let one failure derail you for the rest of the season. Everyday is a new day and you can start right now. Go for a walk and clear your head. Plan ahead for the rest of the week and make smart choices. You don't have to gain weight this Christmas.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Christmas time is a wonderful time to worship You and to take the focus off of myself. Help me to remember the reason you sent Your Son to become one of us. Forgive me for getting wrapped up in the secular trappings of the season and help me to keep Christ in Christmas. Amen.

Hi Everyone! I'm back. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful time with family. God has blessed us so much and we are so grateful.

I spent the weekend putting up Christmas decorations and baking cookies and listening to Christmas music. This weekend I'm working on Christmas cards. I was going to make my own and decided not to torture myself this year. I have most of my shopping already done. I have a couple of things to pick up tomorrow.

The calendar is full with shopping dates with friends, parties, and Christmas programs. There is even snow in the forecast for Saturday. I love this time of year.

The blogging may have to take a back seat during the Christmas season, but I'll be here tomorrow for Anchor Friday and I'll try to stop by and catch up with you all this weekend.

A prayer went up to God for direction and guidance. I wanted to honor him and to encourage others. The answer came in the form of a picture. An anchor. Christ is my anchor. The visual was so stirring. Then the words started to come.

Healthy living can be a struggle. We know what we ought to do but temptation and the flesh can get the better of us sometimes. We all need accountability, encouragement, and resolve. We need each another.

Getting healthy and staying healthy is more than just a number on the scale or a dress size. To me being healthy is a form of worship to God. Honoring the way He created me. Respecting myself and taking care of the one body God gave me. Taking care of myself so I can serve Him better. Relying on God to fill me on the inside.

So today we launch Anchor Friday and I mean we not I. Together we will seek God's will for our lives in the disciplines of healthy habits, daily devotion, bible study, and prayer. Together with Christ we can succeed and give God all the glory. Together we can lift one another up in prayer and encourage each other to take it one day at a time and to never, never give up.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for being our Hope, our Anchor. Please bless the women who come here today. Give us a renewed resolve to live for you and to live healthier. We want to give you all the glory, in Christ Jesus, I pray.

Amen.

The Blog Suffers...

If you have been following me for awhile you may have noticed that I'm not here as much as I once was, and my commenting is down somewhat.

It's not you!

Really.

It's me.

I've been doing more in the outside world than I had been doing and there are only so 24 hours in a day. Don't get me wrong, I love the Blog world. It is a real blessing to me to be able to write to you, read your comments, and read your blogs.

I have had many more opportunities to do things in the outside world this Fall and that blesses me too. I am doing more at my church and bible study, spending more time with girlfriends, and most importantly spending more time with my family. This weekend my in-laws are coming to visit and they will be staying with us till December 1. This will be a special time for us as a family and I'm looking forward to a big family Thanksgiving.

So I will be absent from blog world for a few days and probably back after the 1st. I may stop in from time to time, you never know.

Thankfulness...

This is that time of year when we think of all those things we are thankful for. There are people listing one thing a day on Facebook. There are people with top 10 lists and thankful jars on their kitchen counter. I was thinking about this and how I could tell you what I am thankful for. Then it hit me.

This will be the first Holiday Season without my mom. I want to focus on good memories and not become a blubbering, depressed person over the Holidays. I want to focus on my blessings and not what I'm missing. So here are the things I'm thankful for.

There are the obvious ones like: family, freedom, health, home, my salvation, and God's provision.

There are the more personal ones: my Boaz (my wonderful husband, see the Book of Ruth ); my two beautiful daughters who think I'm interesting, cool, smart, funny, and still want to talk to me (and hug me in public); and my friends who I love to pieces.

I'm thankful for some odd ball stuff, too: my curly hair, my weird sense of humor, sunshine, chocolate, and the fact that I've done just about everything under the sun to mess up my life and God can still use that for His Glory!

I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to serve God at church, bible study, at home and right here on my little ole blog. I am also grateful for you my blog friends. So as we prepare for Thanksgiving, let us also prepare our hearts to give thanks to God for all his grace and mercy on our lives.

And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Anchor Friday - Nourishment

I'm 45 years old. I'm still learning new things. I'm grateful that I can still learn at my age. The real trick is applying what you learn to your everyday life. It's taken years to learn how to do this with God's word.

My BSF study is in John this year. It amazes me how scripture, no matter how well I think I know it, still has something new for me. After Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, the disciples came to Him.

John 4:31-34 (NLT)

Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus, “Rabbi, eat something.”

But Jesus replied, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about.”

“Did someone bring him food while we were gone?” the disciples asked each other.

Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.”

Doing the will of the Father was nourishment to our Lord. Meditating on this I thought about the times when I was doing something for the Lord and got so into the work that I didn't think about myself at all. When I'm completely surrendered to doing God's will, I tend to do better with my eating.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help me to surrender my will for yours and to keep me mindful of what I eat. Amen.

Anchor Friday - Change

Daylight savings time ends this weekend. Remember: Spring - forward, Fall - back! Even the smallest change makes a huge impact. I love getting that extra hour of sleep but then it takes days to get my body clock to adjust.

Some changes are pleasant. Change of seasons, switching out the old handbag for a new one, fresh - clean sheets, and sunshine after the rain. Just to name a few.

Some change is down right unbearable, uncomfortable, unfair, and uncertain. Maybe it's the loss of a job, or loved one, or having to move from your home, and my least favorite - getting older.

Some people react poorly to change and some go with the flow.

Making needed changes when getting healthy can be a challenge. You may have to eat more foods that you don't like as well. You may need to move more even if you don't like to exercise. You may need to break bad habits.

My body has changed over the years. In my teens, I was a fit athlete and could eat whatever I wanted. In my twenties, I gained weight and became less active. I ate poorly. I started some bad habits. In my thirties, I struggled to lose weight but truth be told, I wasn't trying very hard. I had a ton of excuses. In my forties, I didn't like how being overweight made me feel.

Sore back and neck, sore knees, looking in the mirror, getting higher blood pressure, and being tired all the time were just a few of things that were making me 'uncomfortable." I became uncomfortable enough to start doing something about it. Change became possible when I became uncomfortable with my current situation. It certainly would have been easier to loose when I was 30, but I had to get so uncomfortable that I saw no choice but to make the changes needed.

Now it's not been easy. I'm not always happy with the things I have to do to lose weight. Change is hard. Denying self isn't fun.

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

But in the end, changing behaviors and habits to more healthy choices.... is so worth it.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for getting my attention and making me uncomfortable enough to change. Thank You for Your loving discipline and the benefits of a peaceful harvest of right living. Amen.

Anchor Friday - Accountable

I've been a slacker with the whole eat healthy, eat less, lose weight, etc...

My Weight Watcher buddy and I were doing great. We were attending meetings regularly and then things changed. I began volunteering, she got a job, and that's where it started going wrong. With no one to go with me, I stopped going to meetings on a regular basis and went only once in awhile. I tried different meetings at different times and still had trouble sticking to the program on my own.

I really need someone to keep me accountable for attending the meetings and staying on the program.

A few weeks ago I was having lunch with a friend and the subject of Weight Watchers came up. She was doing it online and having trouble keeping on track. She thought she needed to attend meetings. I offered to go with her and she liked that idea.

Being accountable makes all the difference. We, humans, need it. We are made that way. Without it we do whatever we can get away with. It's like a child without supervision. For me to stay on track I need a buddy to get me to the meeting. The scale keeps me on track with my eating. Accountability works.

Hebrews tells us that we are accountable to God and spending time in God's Word is the key.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

Thank you for giving me a friend to be accountable to and thank you for Your Word to keep me accountable to You. Amen.

Anchor Friday - God is Enough!

Got behind this week. So busy. Sorry. So I'm reposting this from October 8, 2009 because I need to be reminded that God is enough.

This living well is hard work. It's also 'heart' work. There are so many issues to deal with when choosing this journey. The weight I carry around is just a symptom of a deeper 'heart' issue. As I peal away the excuses and the negative feelings and all the other 'stuff' I'm learning that my God is enough. His grace is enough. His mercy is enough. His salvation is enough. His love is enough. HE IS ENOUGH.

When I choose to do things I know are wrong for me, I am really saying that God is not enough. I am sure that grieves my Heavenly Father.

When I choose to live rightly, God rejoices with me and I know that He is all I need. I choose to Live Well, today. I will trust and obey God today! More God = less me.

Why is everyone hungry for more? "More, more," they say. "More, more."
I have God's more-than-enough,

More joy in one ordinary day
Than they get in all their shopping sprees.

At day's end I'm ready for sound sleep,
For you, God, have put my life back together.

General Beauregard II

Isn't this adorable? When I saw this I just had to get it. Because of this little guy.

Our pug, General Beauregard (Beau) is 11 years old now. He cracks me up everyday with his adorable face and the way he plays with his toys.

He guards me from evil doers with his barking. Airplanes, birds, kids on bikes... you never no where evil is lurking. I love this little guy.

So when I saw this decorative planter with a "Welcome" Pug, I knew right where I would put it. The welcome wreaths change with the seasons. For Christmas, I'll put a little tree with lights in the pot and change the wreath.

We named him General Beauregard II. He's cute and all, but I don't think he will make a very good guard dog.

Well I shouldn't be surprised, but God is working on my eye. Thanks for all the prayers and if you get a chance keep praying for me. See yesterday's post.

It happened pretty quickly. I noticed a difference right away. It's not gone completely. The 'floater' in my right eye moved for the first time. It comes and goes, but I have had some relief and my headache went away.

Like right now, I can't 'see' the it. When I can see it, I can't stop tracking it and it makes me cross-eyed and then I get a headache. I have a super busy day today so I wanted to stop in and give you a quick report and a big thank you!

Prayer Requested

Dear Friends,

I haven't been one to share personal prayer requests on my blog. I share some personal stuff here, but most of the time I try to keep my posting on a positive, encouraging note. There is enough bad news out there. I'm generally a positive, upbeat person.

The last few days something has been bothering me, actually it's driving me crazy. So as a believer in the power of prayer and I know that many of you are prayer warriors I have a special prayer request.

I have a 'floater' in my right eye. I have the beginnings of cataracts in both eyes and until recently they haven't bothered me at all. I would occasionally see a 'floater' when looking out the corner of my left eye. This one on my right eye is making me cross-eyed and giving me a headache. It's only bothersome when I'm reading and working on the computer. It's making me looney.

I'm putting a call into my eye doctor, but my insurance probably won't cover the examine and not sure what they can do about it.

All prayers are appreciated and God's will be done. If it would just move out to the corner of my eye so I could see forward that would be helpful. If God would remove it, even better.

To God be the Glory in all things.

So here's a bunch more of my favorite pumpkin recipes.

ENJOY!

PUMPKIN PIE BARS

1-1/3 cups flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) cold butter or margarine
1 cup old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats, uncooked
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
3 eggs
1 can (15 oz.) pumpkin
1 Tbsp. pumpkin pie spice

Heat oven to 350°F. Line 13x9-inch pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over sides; grease foil. Mix flour, 1/4 granulated sugar and brown sugar in medium bowl; cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in oats and nuts.

Reserve 1 cup oat mixture; press remaining onto bottom of prepared pan. Bake 15 min. Beat cream cheese, remaining sugar, eggs, pumpkin and spice with mixer until well blended. Pour over crust; sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.

Bake 25 min.; cool 10 min. Use foil to transfer dessert from pan to wire rack; cool completely. Makes 24 servings.

Good for you Pumpkin Muffins

2/3 cup 2% reduced fat milk
2 large eggs
3 tsp pumpkin spice
2/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup canned pumpkin
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup Splenda
Cooking spray

Preheat oven to 400F. Coat muffin tin with cooking spray or line with cupcake wrappers.
Combine flour, baking powder, spice, and baking soda in a large bowl. Combine applesauce, pumpkin, Splenda, eggs and milk in a medium bowl, mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon. Add applesauce mixture to flour mixture and mix completely. Fill muffin tin holes about 2/3 full and bake for 20 – 25 minutes. Makes 12.

Igniting the Spark of Creativity

I got crafty this weekend.

First, I played with my blog look. Thanks to some inspiration from ShabbyBlogs.com. I've changed the background a couple 100 times and played with some new headers and buttons. I'll be playing around with different looks for awhile. Working on my own creations for the first of the year. During the holidays, I'll probably play around with it. It was so much fun to just fiddle with the computer and do absolutely nothing productive or remotely related to housework.

Then while I was waiting between loads of laundry, I made this mini pumpkin topiary.

I made it out of the things I had laying around my house. I rarely throw away anything that might be made into something else, so I revved up the hot glue gun and had a blast.

I might be the only one in the house who gets it, but I needed to be crafty. I haven't done anything crafty for a long time. I just haven't been inspired to. But this weekend something happened. I let my mind wander and let the creative 'me' loose.

It was so much fun. I think I might just start journaling some ideas for some future craft projects and head back to the craft store. I may even start back on my scrapbooks. It's been over a year. I think I might just make my own Christmas cards this year... maybe next year.

Have you ever gotten to the point where you want to push the 'Easy' button of life and start over?

Every time I gain a few pounds I would love to push the re-set button on the scale and turn it back to that point when I was really doing well.

I would love it if I could have a 'do-over' after I've had one of those days when I ate too much.

Unfortunately the world doesn't work like that. As far as I know, no one has invented a time machine.

But there is good news! God lets us have 'do-overs.' When we get to the end of our rope and get real and repent. God will grant us a second chance. Every morning God wants to give us a new beginning. Every day God wants us to start clean. How awesome is that! God loves us that much.

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:4-7

We are examples of the incredible wealth of His grace and kindness. Think about that.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You. I do not deserve Your grace and mercy but I am so grateful. Remind me every morning of your mercy and forgive me when I take it for granted. Remind me that I am the example of your grace and kindness to those around me. Amen.

My Favorite Cake

I had to re-post this from last fall. Enjoy!

I found this recipe about 5 years ago from Kraft. Everyone loves the flavor of this cake. I've made this for holidays and for parties. I've taken it to potlucks. Not overly sweet but full of flavor. The cake is beautiful and makes a nice presentation. This is the original recipe. I’ve included my own variations below.

Luscious Four-Layer Pumpkin Cake

Ingredients:
1 pkg. (2-layer size) yellow cake mix
1 can (15 oz.) pumpkin, divided
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup oil
4 eggs
1-1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice, divided
1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed
1/4 cup caramel ice cream topping
1/4 cup PLANTERS Chopped Pecans

HEAT oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 2 (9”) round baking pans. Beat cake mix, 1 cup pumpkin, milk, oil, eggs and 1 tsp. spice in large bowl with mixer until well blended. Pour into prepared pans.

BAKE 28 to 30 min. or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 min. Remove from pans to wire racks; cool completely. Beat cream cheese in small bowl with mixer until creamy. Add sugar, remaining pumpkin and spice; mix well. Gently stir in COOL WHIP.

CUT each cake layer horizontally in half with serrated knife; stack on serving plate, spreading cream cheese filling between layers. (Do not frost top layer.) Drizzle with caramel topping just before serving; sprinkle with nuts. Refrigerate leftovers.

If you think you can't make this you can. It's really easy. KraftFoods includes a video to show you how it's done. If I can do it any one can make this beautiful cake. When time is at a premium, I have made this in a Bundt pan and a 9”x13” pan. I have skipped the fancy step of slicing the two rounds in half and just used the 2 rounds whole. The icing is really tasty but the cake is out of this world. YUMMY.

Why I prefer Bible Study Fellowship over other Bible studies

There are so many wonderful bible studies available to Christians today and some very gifted teachers. I've been doing some sort of bible study practically my whole life. It was about six years ago when I first heard about BSF - Bible Study Fellowship . I had just moved to a new town and was looking for a bible study. I was looking for something more intense with less fluff. I was hungry for God's word and was ready to get serious.

I had been through a rough patch with God and I needed to work on my relationship with Him. He put in me this overwhelming desire to study the scriptures. I got started in the middle of 'The History of Israel and the Minor Prophets'. It was tough to catch up and to keep up with the daily questions and reading, but I was determined.

Now you may think that this study would be dry, boring, and confusing. It wasn't! Every week we would see God's love for His people and for me. Every week the study would ask me to apply what I learned to my life. Every week I would see that God wasn't finished with a sinner like me. Every week I heard God speak to me directly through His Word. Every week God poured His love into my life. It changed me. Forever.

So why is BSF so different from other bible studies?

1. Daily questions & Bible reading
The weekly lessons are set up with daily passages to read and questions to answer. This time in the word is so important and it establishes a good habit. Daily time in God's word is so important. The questions are meditative and focus on application for your current situation, God's character, and what are you going to do as a result of knowing these things.

2. Small group discussion
The group setting is very structured. The group leaders keep us on track. You can only answer a question if you have something written down. You cannot mention other books, movies, sermons, etc. when you answer. I love to hear what God is revealing to the other women. I've made many friends over the years through this study.

3. Teaching Lectures
The Teaching Leader takes us through the lesson each week after small group. She will have maybe 2 - 3 principles for us to take away. It solidifies what we have learned and most times gives me yet another perspective.

4. Notes
On the way out we are given a set of notes. There are notes for teaching children, another set of notes to share with the family - daily bible reading and questions to use in family devotions, and an overview of the weeks passages. These notes have historical explanations and discuss many of the various theological views. Also every week, participants are encouraged to give their lives to Christ if they have not yet done so.

5. In depth study of both Old and New Testaments.
This is an eight year study. They recently added the study of Isaiah that starts next year. Each year we are in a different portion of scripture. The classes are held from September to May. The other studies include: John (this year's study), Acts of the Apostles, Genesis, Romans, Matthew, The Life of Moses and The History of Israel and the Minor Prophets

BSF has classes all across the country and many overseas. BSF is non-denominational. There is no charge. It offers classes for men, women and children. While mom or dad is taking the class, there is a wonderful children's class available. This is not childcare but real bible teaching for little ones. Most classes offer this for children age two through Kindergarten. There are day and evening classes. My Family's History

This is one of my favorite photos.

This is a four generation photo that I found going through my mother's things.

1964: The baby is me, and the beautiful red-head is my mother, with her father, and her father's mother.

I have a treasure of photos much like this. They go all the way back to the early 1900's. My grandmother wrote on the back of many of them. I want to create something using the stories and photos but not sure how I want to do it.

Some ideas are to make a photo book, make several copies and give them to my children, cousins, aunts and uncles. There are several photo sites online where you can publish your own books. I also thought I could ask family members to help with the stories and some of the information for documentation.

I had started a scrapbook. I love to make elegant scrapbooks with lots of embellishments. This endeavor could become very costly and would take several books and there would be only one copy.

I have thought about blogging everything and that would cost nothing.

I'm back- live. This is not a re-run, but an actual current post. First I must thank you all for your patience while I was away from blogland. I still have a lot of catching up with comments and blog reading, and I'm still not quite back to full speed. I've needed the break from it though and happy to be able to come back.

The scripture above is kinda where I'm at right now. I feel that I've had to take this break to get my mind back to where I need it to be. I'm not even sure if I will be blogging as much as I used to because I need time to do other things. As most of you know the internet can be all consuming and rob us of valuable time for other things. I feel the need to spend even more time in God's Word and more time in prayer.

And I echo Paul's sentiments when he continues with the next verses in Scripture. I am so thankful to Christ that I'm not stuck at the end of verse 24.

Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

My Pumpkin Obsession

Its that wonderful time of year again, my favorite time of year - Fall!

This is only part of my collection. I don't display them this way, but when I was unwrapping them I set them on the counter and thought for a second that I may have issues. They end up all over my house. Almost every room in the house has a pumpkin in it. It doesn't stop there.

I love to eat and drink everything pumpkin. Pumpkin Spice Lattes, muffins, cookies, pancakes, pie, cheesecake, etc...

I can't get enough. If loving pumpkin is wrong, I don't want to be right.

“Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God”

If you google "Crazy Love" you will get some interesting results. But if you google "Francis Chan's book Crazy Love" you will find many reviews written by people who call this book "a paradigm-shaking book with a message that Christians desperately need to hear" and "a wake up call for the church."

Here's a quote from the book:

"The goals of American Christianity are often a nice marriage, children who don’t swear, and good church attendance. Taking the words of Christ literally and seriously is rarely considered. That’s for the 'radicals' who are 'unbalanced' and who go 'overboard'. Most of us want a balanced life that we can control, that is safe, and that does not involve suffering."

We are called by Christ in Matthew 28:19 to make disciples.

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit."

Cornerstone Church is currently making plans to fore go the usual mega-church building program. With more than 3,000 people attending Cornerstone’s weekly services, they have outgrown its existing facility. Instead of building a traditional structure, plans are being drawn up for an outdoor amphitheater, called The Tierra Rejada Building Project. The goal? To reduce facility costs, which will then allow the church to increase spending on the poor. “We can save millions of dollars on a building that would be better used building the lives of the poor,” says Chan. “So we figured we could suffer (if you can really call it that) for an hour a week to become a church that is willing to think and worship outside of the box.”

What the "State-Run" Media didn't report.

The 912DC March was historical but you won't hear that from the state-run media. So I thought I would let you know what they didn't report.

They didn't report that the protesters were made up of many races of people. I saw it myself. This March was not about Obama's race. But that doesn't fit their template that the "Teabaggers" are racists. It offends me when people who don't know me call me a racist. It's ignorant. I also find the label "Teabaggers" to be very offensive.

They didn't report accurately the number of people who were there. You've heard that 10's of thousands were there. Metro reported on Saturday that close to 450,000 people alone used the metro rail system. (average Sat 202,000). I was there and in my opinion at least 500,000 people were at the rally if not more. The UK press reported that 2 million people were in attendance.

They reported that it was a anti-Obama rally. Not the case. It was a rally against out of control Government. The protesters were speaking out against the Obama Administration and Congress (Democrats and Republicans) for all the radical things they are doing. The list includes Cap & Trade, Health care, Taxes, Bail-Outs, Czars, Government take overs of the banks and the auto industry, and many more.

They didn't report these other interesting points either. No one was arrested. It was a peaceful march not an angry mob. That unlike the people attending the Obama Inauguration, the protesters didn't trash the place.

I've had people tell me that the Tea Party movement won't make any difference. But it already has. The conservative base has been energized and as a result more vocal. We are holding up the passing of health care reform. The democrats up for re-election this fall are scared. Why are they scared? They are losing support from their own party. This movement is not made up of only Right Wing Republicans.

I also know that the people who marched on D.C. were representative of a vast number of people who could not attend. Many of my extended family and many friends wanted to be there. They were very excited that we (myself, my husband and our two daughters) were there representing them.

My message to all of you out there is this. You matter. Your voice matters. Your vote matters. Talk to your family, your friends, and your neighbors. Don't believe everything the networks and the newspapers tell you.

Flip that Gym!

Today's post is called "Flip that Gym!" At our church we have been having contemporary worship services in a gym. The building next to the sanctuary building was a former middle school. After 7 years in the 'gym' the go ahead was given to make it a little less like a gym and more like an auditorium. Most of the work was done by volunteers. I can't even tell you all that was accomplished, but God in all his attention to detail got the job done.

Now the work has really begun. We had a full house on Sunday morning and we are stepping up the plans to add a second contemporary worship service by the first of next year. It's so exciting seeing God's people in action.

My husband and myself and our 2 teenage daughters went to the March in D.C. on Saturday. It was an incredible day. I hope to have some time later in the week to blog about it. Blessings.

Anchor Friday - All Things Are Possible

A couple more weeks of work at church and I should be back to a regular routine. It's been a real blessing to have time to give to this project. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend.

So here is another post from last year. I should have some new stuff soon.

I got the scale to only move down .2 lbs. this week. That might not seem like much to most people but when you are trying to lose you take what you get. A number on a scale isn't what is important to God. Size does not matter to God.

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:20 (NIV)

Nothing will be impossible for you.

I heard once that it's not how much faith you have but who your faith is in.

I have a question for you (and myself). Is your faith in the right place? In the right person?

You can only place your faith in one place. When you look back or have doubts your faith is misplaced.

"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."

"Come," he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"

And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.

Is there something that you think is impossible? Think. Is there something too big for God? Do you think you can't lose weight, it's impossible?

Faith is the absence of fear. A little faith in the right Person will accomplish miraculous things.

I put in a full week again at church. Things are moving along. Some of the changes will include new paint, new, larger projection screens, new platform steps up to stage, new sound and video production booth, new lights, etc. It will be quite a transformation. I've been on paint prep duty: taping and priming.

Today I’m at a workshop for Photoshop CS4. It should be very educational and fun! So for this week I’m sharing a post from last August.

There is a battle going on in my world. Maybe some of you can relate.

Monday night, I’m running kid #2 to Taekwondo class and I have about 2 hours to wait, so I plan a couple of errands. I have some things to get from the grocery store and think to myself, “Hmmm, I want chocolate.” I figure I deserve it, I want it, I NEED it. So I make this bargain with God that I’ll park on the far end of the parking lot and carry a basket instead of a cart, so I will be working for this treat and that will make up for it and I have to weigh in on Tuesday.

I’m walking into the store and feel good about this. I get a dark chocolate Toblerone. Yummmmmm. I put it in the ever increasingly heavy basket thinking I’m really burning calories lugging this thing around the store. I grab a cold Diet Pepsi to wash down the candy.I get to the check out and it’s crazy busy. I hand the clerk my reusable shopping bag and get out my wallet. I pay the clerk and lug my heavy groceries across the parking lot. I’m actually starting to sweat a little as I get to my car. I plop the bag onto the passenger seat and start to rummage through the bag for the chocolate. It’s not there. I’m thinking I have to find it quick or it’s going to start melting. It’s not there. Look again and take everything out of the bag. It's not there.

I pull out the receipt thinking I can go back with the evidence and retrieve my candy. It’s not on the receipt. I didn’t pay for a dark chocolate Toblerone. I stop.

I know exactly what happened. God did this. God made a way of escape for me. He has done this before. Like the time the fries fell on the garage floor. And another time I was sneaking, eating (whatever) a piece of candy over a sink full of dirty dish water and it fell in. I could go on, but I'll spare you.

I know God gets a kick out of this. He’s probably laughing at me right now. I was left sitting in my car without my dark chocolate Toblerone. At first I’m a little upset with God, then I start to smile thinking God must really love me. Then God and I have a little conversation. I thank Him for knowing what is best for me, I open my cold Diet Pepsi and drive away.

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

Thank you, Father, for making a way out for me even when I'm being a spoiled brat.

Anchor Friday

It has been a very productive week and I'm feeling good about what has been accomplished so far. Still so much to do. I thought I would repost an Anchor Friday from 2-13-09.

I feel so week most of the time. I'm tempted and give in too many times. The more I meditate on this and seek God's wisdom on why I do this over and over again, I was reminded that I need to fully trust God. I tend to do my own thing when I am lacking in trust. It's a weakness of faith. Lack of faith = lack of trust = sin.

So moment by moment, day by day, I need to rely on God one day at a time. Live in each moment as if it were all there is. If all I have is this day, I may be less inclined to waste it. I may be less inclined to sin. If today was all I had, what would I do?

I'd want today to be perfect. I'd want to be in right standing with God. I would want to please him. I would put my desires on a shelf. I would think of others first. I would call a friend and help someone in need. I would cram as much good into the day as I could and not waste a moment feeling bad about the past. I would want today to stand out as the best day ever.

I would share Jesus with a lost person. I would feed a hungry person. I would visit a lonely person. I would pass up the junk food for time in the Word.

I wouldn't waste time feeling sorry for myself, or making excuses, or blaming others, or eating for no good reason.

This quote says it so well, I have to share it with you.

One day at a time- this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.

~Anchor Friday - Faith, Idols, and Blogging

Still praying and seeking God's will for this blog and for the other projects that He has given me to do. One of the big things that I have going on now, is evaluating and learning new software for our worship presentations at church. We are also making some other big changes at church and there is so much to prepare. We are making some big changes in our worship center, too. I know that if I honor God and follow Him, He will take care of the rest.

I've seen Him multiply my time, solve problems, and basically make a way where there is no way.

I've loved writing my blog and having interaction with so many lovely people. I know that God wants me to be here.

But..

And there is always a 'but'.

He will honor what I do if I purposefully put Him first. I have been very lax in my bible study over the summer. I need more quiet time. I need to focus on living healthy. I need MORE GOD.

When I get busy, it's easy to short change God to keep up. I don't want to do that. I will blog when I have time and when I have something to share. I will try to post Anchor Friday weekly and may repost some early stuff. I will try to stop by as many blogs as time permits. I think things should settle down by late September.

The sermon last Sunday was about 'Abandoning Idols' and one thing that stuck out for me is this analogy. We can only hold on to one thing at a time and if I have to put God down to pick up this blog, then this blog has become an 'idol'.

James 1:5-7 (NLT)

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

HGTV Design Star - Garage Challenge

Another great episode last night.

I love the concept of creating more living space from unused spaces. Because of the economy, 2 families wanted to expand their living space into their garages.

My only issue with this is the teams had $10,000 to create this. To me, they spent more time shopping than designing. The spaces were not that creative. Would love to see smaller budgets and more imagination.

That being said, I love the drama of the whole competition. You learn a lot about a person's character watching them under pressure. Pressure of the assignment, pressure to finish the job, pressure of working with and against your competitors, and pressure facing the judges all add to a fascinating show. Note to the competitors: It's bad taste to throw your team member under the bus. BAD! Be truthful but also be supportive.

Well maybe it's definition 2b. Anyway, was wondering if this has happened to any of you fellow bloggers. (Is it still fellow bloggers, when most everyone is female? What is the female equivalent of fellow?) Do you have days where you question why you blog? or question if you should keep blogging?

I've been going through some personal junk in my head dealing with the grief of losing my mother and issues with the estate, a pile of unfinished projects and to do lists, busy kids and schedules, getting ready for back to school, and a husband working crazy long days while doing his masters. Not to mention a lot is going on at church and I could seriously be there every day of the week doing something.

I'm not complaining. I LOVE my life. It might not be exciting or glamorous, but I LOVE it.

I'm just trying to get a grip on that long list above and to make sure that I still have time for taking care of myself physically and spiritually. I long for structure and routine. This summer has been neither structured nor routine. Maybe once school starts, I will get a better grip on my life.

In the mean time, while I'm sorting this stuff out, I will try to keep up with my regular blogging. I want to keep my blog, but I also want to do what my Lord would have me do. I will continue to seek the Lord and His wisdom and guidance. I will continue to improve my mind and body. In the end all I really want is...

More God and less me.

"No Excuse Sunday” coming soon to a church near you.

The following accommodations will be made for your convenience:

Cots will be placed in the foyer for those who say, “Sunday is my only day to sleep in.

There will be a special section with lounge chairs for those who feel that our pews are too hard.

Eye drops will be available for those with tired eyes from watching TV late Saturday night.

We will have steel helmets for those who say, “The roof would cave in if I ever came to church.”

Blankets will be furnished for those who think the church is too cold, and fans for those who say it is too hot.

Scorecards will be available for those who wish to list the hypocrites present.

Relatives and friends will be in attendance for those who can’t go to church and cook dinner, too.

We will distribute “Stamp Out Stewardship” buttons for those that feel the church is always asking for money.

One section will be devoted to trees and grass for those who like to seek God in nature.

Doctors and nurses will be in attendance for those who plan to be sick on Sunday.

We will provide hearing aids for those who can’t hear the preacher and cotton wool for those who think the music is too loud!

The sanctuary will be decorated with both Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies for those who never have seen the church without them.

Anchor Friday

I had a pretty good week and lost 2 more pounds. My search for God's wisdom has led me to a discovery of sorts. I think God gave me this little morsel of truth, but the more I think about it, it's basic common sense.

I often eat when I'm stressed. When I'm stressed I make bad food choices. Candy bars, junk food, and empty calories are the stress reliever of choice for me. But am I really hungry?

How can I tell if I'm really hungry or just stressed out? Here's the wisdom part. When I'm stress eating, only junk food will satisfy the craving. I pass the fruit and veggies and head straight for the junk. When I'm truly hungry an orange will tempt my taste buds but when I'm stress eating the orange doesn't sound good at all. Does this sound like you?

So before you snack you need to determine if you are truly hungry or just jonesing for a fix.

Hungry? Veggies and fruit seem to make a great snack. Stressed? Fruit and veggies won't do. What are your triggers? Most women are emotional eaters. When we can determine why we need to munch, we can manage it more effectively. When I'm not really hungry but I need to chew something I chew a piece of sugar free gum. Sometimes I just need a few minutes to get passed the feeling of needing something when I'm not really hungry.

My search for wisdom from Proverbs has lead me to this section of the scriptures.

For the Lord sees clearly what a man does,
examining every path he takes.
An evil man is held captive by his own sins;
they are ropes that catch and hold him.
He will die for lack of self-control;
he will be lost because of his great foolishness.
Proverbs 5 :21-23 (NLT)

Ok, my new discovery isn't new but I think I get it now. I need to examine my motives when I choose to put something in my mouth. God will help you discern what is right for you.

Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand
what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him.
Proverbs 2:2-8 (NTL)

Isn't that wonderful? The Lord will grant wisdom, but not just any old wisdom. You will gain the knowledge of God. Not the world's wisdom. God's wisdom. I think that's incredible. I want more of that. Don't you?

Dear Father in Heaven,
Thank you for giving me your wisdom and common sense. I will search for your wisdom as silver and seek it like hidden treasure. Help me to choose wisely. Give me the disire for healthy foods and not junk. Amen.

Design Star - White Room Challenge!

Ok, I missed posting last week about my favorite show, so this week I'm covering both episodes.

Last week was the kitchen challenge. This is the hardest challenge every season. Again, David Bromstad (the first season winner) gave a fabulous recap here.

Last night was the White Room Challenge. This was crazy good. You can go here to see all the rooms. My favorite room was Torie's but I thought Nathan and Dan did very well also.

My favorite two people on the show are Antonio (this dude is so funny) and Torie from Texas (she's from Humble, Texas just a stones throw from my in-laws).

Hi All! I'm back from my trip and I'm oh so happy to be home. I'm so far behind on my blog reading and posting, but I'll be trolling around this weekend to catch up. I just had to share this with you this morning.

This is why I love youtube. This one made my day and combines all "my favorite things."

Info: More than 200 dancers were performing their version of "Do Re Mi", in the Central Station of Antwerp. with just 2 rehearsals they created this amazing stunt! Those 4 fantastic minutes started the 23 of march 2009, 08:00 AM. It is a promotion stunt for a Belgian television program, where they are looking for someone to play the leading role, in the musical of "The Sound of Music".

Have you heard that one? I've lived it.

I have the benefit of hind-sight having been married once before and now re-married. I could give seminars on 'what-not-to-do' and the consequences. Each of my marriages has been the exact opposite of the other. Mostly because I made up my mind to make it so.

I can't blame the failing of my first marriage to my X even if I wanted to. After almost 14 years, I ended up with a really bad attitude. Some call it survival mode, but I call it 'fed up'. I had had it and I had made up my mind that I didn't want to be married to that man any more. Although I did give him a ~~ultimatum~~ second chance. He walked away in the end.

The last few years were the worst. The old saying above was true for me. When I wasn't happy (which was most of the time) everyone else was miserable. I expected him to make me happy. Not in material things but in effort, support and love. The emotional stuff. I felt like an old used juice box. Empty. Sucked dry. So I chose to be unhappy and that made everyone unhappy. There are few things that are more sad than an unhappy marriage.

Fast forward to marriage #2. I think of husband #2 as my 'forever' husband because I had my eyes wide opened when I married him. My eyes were blinded the first time. You know like when you are heading down the scary part of a roller coaster, so you close your eyes. That's how I felt when I got married the first time. My dad even told me right before we headed down the isle that it was ok to turn around. Just like a our Heavenly Father, my dad gave me free-will; so I shut my eyes tight, gritted my teeth and hoped everything would just work itself out. Stupid, I know.

So now I've learned some valuable lessons. Lessons learned the hard way. Lessons too important not to share with others so they can avoid the devastating effects of divorce. Lessons I'm sharing with my own daughters. Here's one of the secrets. Are you ready?

If Mama ain't happy... then nobody happy. Huh?

Stick with me on this one.

Today, I choose to be happy and to do my best to make my family happy. I put my husband's and my children's happiness before my own. I do my best to 'get happy' and spread it around. I choose to be happy with my place in this world. I've turned my house into a happy home. There is nothing more important than to make your marriage work. Don't give up.

Happiness isn't about what others can do for you.

I ask myself these questions:

Does my happiness depend on my finances or whether or not dear husband gets that promotion or bonus at work? or completes that honey-do-list I make for him? or notices that I cleaned all the toilets or got all the laundry done?

Does my happiness depend on my kids doing well in school? or if they are popular? or get picked for the team? or win awards?

Does my happiness depend on being appreciated by others? or accolades at work or church? or how many people read my blog?

Happiness to me is knowing that I'm doing all I can to be the best wife and mother that I can. I have to depend on God to fulfill my emotional needs. Jesus knows me inside out. I know that Jesus is with me, cheering me on. I know that the Holy Spirit is there to guide me and teach me.

And in addition to everything else, we are happy because God sent our Lord Jesus Christ to make peace with us.

I don't know about you, but I am really getting tired of excuses. I used to have an excuse for being overweight, for not eating healthy, for not exercising, for everything!

I hear so many excuses by people I know personally and by people who write blogs. They are experiencing severe health problems because of being overweight and they use excuses to stay stuck where they are. They feel sorry for themselves. I try to be kind and non-judgmental because I've been where they are, but it's hard.

I've seen with my own eyes so many success stories about people losing weight and getting healthy and getting their lives back. It's hard work, but it can be done.

It's a matter of attitude. Most of those people who change their lives so dramatically had to change their attitude first. Attitude adjustment is key to making life changes. It's the thing that divides the whiners from the losers (weight losers that is).

Again I say, I was the chief of sinners and whiners, but if I can become a loser....

SO CAN YOU!

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me is more important than facts.

It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do.

It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.

It will make or break a company...a church...a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.

We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.

We cannot change the inevitable.

The only thing we can do is play on the one thing we have, and that is our attitude.

I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes.

Anchor Friday - God is More Than Enough

More, More, More!

Sometimes I can't control my appetite. Sometimes I just don't want to. I want more.

I am still struggling with this from time to time. I am still working on this and probably will the rest of my life. I'm better than I was before, but I still struggle from time to time.

I've found when I rely on God MORE, I eat less. It's that simple.

When I focus on God MORE, I do better, make better choices, treat myself better, have more patience with others and I'm less stressed.

These verses at the top, are good ones to memorize or put up on your frig or pantry door. God will satisfy you. Praise Him when you want more food. Pray to Him when you feel out of control. God's Word is more satisfying than food. So next time you want food and you know you are not really hungry, pick up your bible and feast on His Word.

For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing.
Luke 12:23

Find your own verses to feast upon.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I confess that I don't always choose the right thing to eat. Help me to feast on You and Your Word. I want You MORE than anything. I want to be strong and live healthy. You are More than enough for me.

Blog-a-Palooza Day 1 Giveaway!

It's here. It's FINALLY HERE!

My Blog-a-Palooza has begun.

I'm celebrating my

one year blogoversary and

my 45th birthday with a few of my friends.

So let the party begin.

I was going through some old photos of me and found one of me when I was one. It was really cute. I was on the kitchen table in a little tub, with a sailor hat on, completely naked. I almost posted it but thought I better not. Don't want to be accused of child porn or starting some kind of scandal. It's a shame we've gotten to this point in our society, but I digress.

So I thought I would show you this picture of me. It was 1983. I was 19. I guess it's not that embarrassing except for the big hair and the shoulder pads.

That girl was a mess on the inside. I'm so glad she survived the 80's. Becoming a Christian didn't fix her over night. She was a rebellious one that girl. She made so many mistakes.

I made so many mistakes.

I don't regret any of it though. I don't want to go back and do it over. Those mistakes taught me so much about life, grace, and mercy.

I wouldn't change a thing except for maybe that hair and those shoulder pads.
